Description

VHGCFreedom Pass:  Your ticket to a great ride is good for ANY ONE DAY during Americade. The Freedom Pass allows you to choose DURING AMERICADE WEEK which day and time (Tu-Sa) you want to ride.  Want to wait for a sunny day? No problem.  And, your lunch ticket is good for any item on the menu. Your choice - It's total freedom.

[ALERT:  The two best gaps on this ride were repaved within the past few months. THIS is the year to take this tour.]

The High Gaps Unguided MiniTour takes you into the heart of Vermont's Green Mountain range, home to some legendary mountain gap roads, and some known only by locals.  It's an eternal Americade favorite ride, and one that you'll be glad you took.  (Beware, call your doctor if your grin lasts more than 4 hours...)

The morning begins with a ride along the shores of Lake George as you head north and east to Vermont.  Among the many sights you'll see before you enter Vermont will be many stunning lake views of Lake George, some fabulous winding roads, and two scenic historic sights:  Fort Ticonderoga (a still perfectly-intact remarkable Revolutionary War fort), and Crown Point VHGD(you'll ride between the walls of the remains of Fort Crown Point).  As you head up and over Crown Point Bridge, have your cameras ready for the stunning views of NY's Adirondacks and Vermont's Green Mountains.

Once in Vermont, you'll ride through the pastoral lands that make Vermont famous, but the real jewels lie ahead - the mountain gaps. Vermont's mountain range runs north-to-south, so to head east/west, Vermonters had to build roads up and over the mountains.  Some of these "gaps" are legendary (such as the "App Gap"), and some are less well known.  This route takes you to the best.  Get ready for twisty, winding, FUN roads. Your lunch destination is in picture-postcard beautiful Middlebury, Vermont.  You have the freedom to choose your menu using your Freedom Pass to pay for the first $15 of your meal.  Any day, any time.

Your road home takes you through more of Vermont's beautiful farmland.  It's a gentle ride back to Lake George that's camera ready and the perfect end to an exciting day of riding the Gaps.

WHAT IS AN UNGUIDED TOUR?  (psst, it's your best bet to a great day of riding on your own.)
VHGEAmericade UnGuided Tours are the best way to experience the Adirondacks or Vermont on your own or just with your friends, without worrying about finding good routes, smooth pavement, great scenery and good food!  We've done all the planning for you, including pre-riding all the routes and testing the great lunches (it's hard work, but someone has to do it...). You leave on your own, follow the detailed maps we provide and arrive at the very special lunch destination where Americade staff will greet you.  Enjoy a scrumptious lunch with fellow Americaders and then fun door prizes provided by each sponsor are drawn.  Round trip mileages are approximate. So, if you're coming all the way up to the Adirondacks, why not guarantee yourself a great day of riding?
